Something Thoughtful

Nicholas Reid reflects in essay form on general matters and ideas related to literature, history, popular culture and the arts, or just life in general. You are free to agree or disagree with him.

APPLICATIONS FOR WAIKATO WRITERS' RESIDENCY

Hand on heart, I admit that I am sometimes at a loss for things to write about in this “Something Thoughtful” section. Not being a born editorialist, I find there are only so many things that one can be grumpy about in the world of the arts, politics or general culture. So this week I forego the duty of finding a suitable topic, and instead find the space to publicise the University of Waikato’s Writers’ Residency. The following information has been sent to me by Associate Professor Sarah Shieff
Applications for the 2020 Creative New Zealand/ University of Waikato Writers’ Residency are now open. The award is tenable for 12 months from early January 2020. The stipend for the year is $52,000.  Applications close on Friday 11 October 2019.
You'll find more information about the residency (including a profile of the current writer in residence Rosetta Allan) here: https://www.waikato.ac.nz/fass/about/school-of-arts/english/writer-in-residence
For more information, please contact Sarah Shieff, email sshieff@waikato.ac.nz
