Reid’s Reader NOW ONLY ONCE A MONTH
Back in 2011, when I first set out to review books in my Reid’s Reader, I thought it would be easy. Each week I would read and review a new book; read and review an old book [usually a classic book but sometimes more recent]; and write a comment about anything that interested me. In other words what I called Something New, Something Old and Something Thoughtful. What made it easy was the fact that for years I had always made detailed notes about the old and classic books that I had read, and so I could present Something Old easily. But running out of my old notes, I now had to read other old and classic books before writing Something Old .
It became more difficult for me to write Something New, Something Old and Something Thoughtful in time. The late Vincent O’Sullivan told me that I was working too hard at reviewing every week. Later I agreed with him. So instead of reviewing books every week I was now reviewing books etc. every fortnight. This gave me less difficulty in getting book reviews on time. On top of this there were all the distractions of life, such as going on journeys to Australia or elsewhere, visiting our many grown-up children, etc. etc. And you will already know that I always took a writing break between Christmas and the end of January.
Now I find it hard to review books even in a fortnight. So I have decided to produce Reid’s Reader only once a month. You are still welcome if you want to make comments about this…. And you might have noticed that for the last week I had not sent books reviews.
